Bright colors and golden accents bring life to this hand-carved and painted mask by Bali s Nyoman Indrawati Subrata of the Subrata Family. Believed to be king of the spirits, Barong is a panther-like creature that figures prominently in Balinese legend. He is the leader of the hosts of good, and enemy of Rangda, the demon queen. The battle between Barong and Rangda is featured in the Barong dance and represents the eternal battle between good and evil.
